Where Journey Meets Destination

"It is not going to be an easy journey, but it will be worth the drive."

I am a job seeker. I have been unemployed for close to two years now. I have gone through the worst situations in my life including depression. These were times when my closest friends turned away, ex-colleagues refused to acknowledge me. These were times when people offered to help but when I reached out, they never reciprocated. These were times when application after application, interview call after interview call – were all unsuccessful. These were times when I thought all doors were closed for me, no more opportunities available for me, the world had ended for me. These were times I thought ‘What is my purpose in life?’

Does this sound familiar?

Who can relate to my experiences?

Do you think you can subdue all the past experiences?

My course guide, The ABCs Of Being A Jobseeker, is filled with insights, personal experiences and advice on what a jobseeker's journey is like and what can be done to make a better you.

difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.

Be A Star! Use S.T.A.R.

Do you have the S.T.A.R attitude?

Do you have what it takes to ace an interview?

A session by Ruth Fernandes, hosted by Avil Pinto, Santosh D'Souza and Venzil Fernandes on Dubai Jobs Hunt.

What is S.T.A.R?

S.T.A.R is a technique that helps to prepare behavioural interview questions on a situational basis.

Situation - Task - Action - Result

What is the S.T.A.R technique?

Situation: A context where you performed a job or faced a challenge

Task: Your responsibility in that situation

Action: How you completed the task. Focus on the "I", not the "we"

Result: The results generated by your action

How to use the S.T.A.R technique?

Before the interview:

- Review the job description and split the responsibilities

- Think of challenges that may arise in the position

- List the various situations (S.T.A.R), that will display your strengths to succeed in this role

During the interview:

- Pause to think on the objective of the question

- Recall a situation and create your story

- Recollect the task and how you managed it

- How did you proceed with your action

- Finally, what was the result

Use this strategy and ace the interview.

Dream Big with Vision Boards

Vision Boards

Mr. Denny Joseph, an International trainer and an NLP Master Practitioner was the guest speaker on #EmpowermentTalks about vision boards.

What is a vision board? Do you have one? Is there something you dream of but feel is unattainable?

Mr. Denny tells us that a vision board is a representation of all the things you want to do or be or have in your life. It is a dream board with a collection of pictures or affirmations of your hopes and desires. Waking up every morning and the first thing you see is your vision board, serves as a source of inspiration and motivation to attain those dreams.

Vision boards do work! Mindset matters if you believe in the law of attraction and are prepared to work to achieve these goals, then yes, those dreams in your head turn into something real and achievable.

All you need is chart paper with all your goals on it, in the form of images, words, or photos. Just make sure those goals are realistic and achievable, to avoid disappointment.

I always thought these were bucket list tasks but I guess a vision board is what it has to be. Here's a digital version of my vision board that needs a change.

Thank you Mr. Denny for an amazing talk that has inspired me to believe in making my own vision board. What do you think?
