Change Your Life

COVID has been and continues to be a stressful period for everyone.

People, for some reason, do not want to show their passion or what they are capable of. So, if the last 3 months has not been fruitful for you to actually find out who you are or where your passion lies, do not be afraid to explore and fail.

Keep going! This has been a good time for people to find out what they really love to do.

LinkedIn is a great opportunity to publish articles and you do get a great audience. Look for opportunities from those who reach out to help you and accept their advice.

This may sound a little controversial; just because you have your diplomas or credits or a management title at the end of your degree, it does not mean you will get a management role when you go into the real world without passion, determination, good experience and a drive to do something with yourself.

The employment market is potentially different now compared to what it was in January. So you need to be sure you can walk the walk and that is really important!

Your Best Offense is Research

“The best RESEARCH you can do is TALK to people.”

There are certain traditional things that are taught to us, right from the time we leave school until university, that needs to change. The lens that our institutions were looking from, is very narrow and not very inclusive as it should be.

This pandemic has given us an opportunity to really think about who we want to be, going forward, and which organizations are best on our career list. There are a lot of people out there who choose careers and work for organizations, where they think they don't have a choice.

This is your perfect opportunity to do as much research as you can. There are lots of virtual communities, influencers, coaches, who do lots of free webinars. Nothing should stop you from reaching out to these people on LinkedIn and asking them if you can attend.

It definitely goes a long way to show your interest and that you are not waiting for opportunities to come to you, but you are creating an opportunity for yourself.

Be brave and think about how you can get close to your target organization and your dream job.

research is what i'm doing when i don't know what i'm doing

Stand Out

🌎 The current environment has become so unprecedented and especially during this lifetime, who would have expected it?

🤔 Moreover, will employers be expected to be empathetic towards graduates/ jobseekers?

🤔 What are you doing to stand apart from the rest of the competition?

These are questions to ponder over and take action.

✳️ Use your time constructively and differently.

❓ What have you done during the Covid19 lockdown?

1️⃣ Have you been upskilling?

2️⃣ Have you taken up a new skill set, or a new course or a new language?

3️⃣ Have you joined webinars or career counseling seminars?

4️⃣ Have you made your LinkedIn account stand out?

5️⃣ Have you made contacts with your network?

⏩ A lot of employers will be assessing how active you have been in upskilling yourself, during this crucial time.

⏩ There is still a lot more out there as companies look towards upgrading themselves.

⏩ All you need to do is reach out and make yourself available to learn and develop yourself.

Engage-ability

Boost Your Visibility on LinkedIn

You can only get the results you want by actively selling yourself & engaging.

* Introduction

Your headline is the first thing people see when they view your profile. This section must display information that describes your unique selling points in your professional career. It must showcase key points that will make people want to know you at a glance.

First impressions are lasting impressions! Use a professional image where you are dressed professionally, smiling & looking straight into the camera with a neutral background.

A cover image conveys who you are, professionally. It could be designed to describe your area of work or industry or interests. This will help your profile stand out.

* Share Posts

This is an excellent way to increase your visibility. If your connections find your posts valuable, they might want to check your profile. Posting regularly will help you get noticed. Your first connections could probably engage with a reaction or a comment - which would lead to your post being displayed on their feed.

Engage

It shouldn't be a one-way street where only your network engages. You need to engage too! This will automatically increase your visibility & expand your network.

S! M! A! R! T! Gooo SMART!

Have you set your goals yet? How S.M.A.R.T are your goals?

What is S.M.A.R.T?

S.M.A.R.T is simply an acronym that helps you to create a successful plan for achieving your goal.

S = SPECIFIC

Your goal needs to be specific, clear and focussed. Example: My goal is to find a job. Now that's very vague! So let's make my goal more specific. Apply for Customer Management related jobs.

M = Measurable

So now I have a specific goal. But I need to measure my progress towards success. So we need to do some research. This means I need to find at least 5 Customer Management related jobs that would interest me.

A = Achievable

Does my goal make sense? Yes! My goal may be challenging but I know I can achieve it. I may need to consider any barriers that I might face, and how to overcome them.

R = Realistic

Considering my skills and experience, my goal is realistic. I believe in myself and I am capable of meeting the job requirements. I am not at an entry-level, applying for a higher post.

T = Timely

All goals require a timeline to achieve success. So set a date. By 20/06/20, I have to find and apply for at least 5 Customer Management related jobs that will interest me.

>REMEMBER<

Define your goals

Write them down

Keep them S.M.A.R.T

Set goals that motivate you

Review them frequently
